Dreame would have remained a run-down aerodynamic laboratory if it hadn’t been taken over by Xiaomi in 2017. The company focused on the development of robotic vacuum cleaners and, under the strict guidance of an older comrade, made a loud statement in 2020. The cunning Chinese took the slightly outdated Xiaomi Mijia 1C, put a top-end battery on it, finalized the mapping and released it under the name Dreame F9. It still remains one of the best visual navigation robots. Dreame then released its first lidar robot, the Dreame D9. The motor has become more powerful, the tank is larger, and in memory there was already a place for several room maps. But the real breakthrough was the extreme models in the manufacturer’s line — Dreame L10 Pro and Dreame Z10 Pro. They installed a powerful motor and an object recognition system, and for the Z10 they also developed a self-cleaning station. This is one of the most attractive offers of 2021.

How it works
Dreame vacuum cleaners work on the same principle: the end brush sweeps the debris under the bottom, the turbo brush throws it further into the air duct, and the vacuum motor draws all the dirt into the built-in dust collector. At the same time, any of the robots can mop the floors with a static mop.
Only the Dreame Z10 Pro stands out against the general background. It not only collects dust in the dust collector, but also empties it on its own at the self-cleaning station.
Navigation
The next point of comparison is navigation. The algorithm for constructing a route for robots is the same — moving in zigzags with a control passage along the walls. Assistants clean the apartment according to the built map, go through the entire available area and do not leave passes. But the technology of building a map and detecting obstacles is different.
Dreame F9 reads the outlines of the ceilings with a camera, then compares the received data with the readings of the gyroscope and optical rangefinder, and displays the projection of the apartment on the smartphone screen. With each next cleaning, the map becomes more and more accurate, then the robot remembers it and divides it into rooms. When faced with obstacles, the Dreame F9 focuses only on the readings of the bumper with IR sensors, so it forgets to sweep around the legs of chairs, flower pots and other objects on the floor.
Dreame D9 is equipped with a lidar instead of an overview camera, so it draws a finished map immediately after the first cleaning. Up to 3 cards are stored in memory, so Dreame D9 is suitable for multi-level houses. Lidar accurately determines the coordinates of surrounding objects and helps to clean areas around boxes and chairs.
Dreame L10 Pro and Dreame Z10 Pro, in addition to lidar, are equipped with a 3D sensor that recognizes objects. These robots avoid contact with socks, shoes, excrement and other problematic obstacles. The number of spatial collisions is reduced, and the cleaning efficiency is increased.
By the way, all Dreame robots, even the most high-tech ones, are afraid of black carpets. This is a generic disease of all Xiaomi vacuum cleaners. It can be cured only with a band-aid — just glue the fall sensors.
Application functions
Dreame robots are controlled using the MiHome app.
In the map editor, you can change the boundaries of rooms, give them familiar names, set virtual walls, target zones and two types of forbidden areas: for dry cleaning or for wet cleaning. You can also choose the number of passages for each room.
Additionally, you can adjust the suction power and wetting intensity; make a schedule with the choice of the right rooms; activate do not disturb mode, resume cleaning after recharging and increase power on carpets; view cleaning history; track the wear of accessories; choose a voice package.
All robots speak Russian well and are friends with Alice.
Dry cleaning
The working accessories of the compared models are the same, only the suction power is different.
For Dreame F9 it is 2500 Pa. This is enough to pick up wool, sand and grains from smooth floors, as well as for surface cleaning of carpets.
Dreame D9 has a slightly higher suction power — 3000 Pa, but this practically does not affect the quality of cleaning. The only difference is that the Dreame D9 is slightly better at pulling sand out of the cracks in the tiles.
Dreame L10 Pro and Dreame Z10 are equipped with a 4000 Pa motor, and here the difference with their predecessors is already noticeable. The tenth models suck out debris from cracks up to 8 mm deep, pick up pebbles and fragments of the designer from the floor, pull sand and dust out of the carpet.
All Dreame robots handle hair very well, but in Dreame L10 Pro and Dreame Z10 the hair is almost not wrapped around the brush. This is achieved by self-cleaning ribs installed in the socket.
Wet cleaning
The wet cleaning system is the same for all models: a mop with a built-in reservoir and pump is installed under the bottom. Water flows through three nozzles, and the amount of wetting can be adjusted in the application, but even at the maximum level, the water supply rate is quite low. Therefore, robots will not cope with old stains, but they will be able to wipe footprints and remove surface dust.
Only the volume of the tank differs. At Dreame F9, 200 ml of water is placed in it, which is enough for 50–70 squares. Dreame D9 and Dreame L10 Pro with a 270 ml tank can process up to 100 sq. m. without refueling. At Dreame Z10, due to the peculiarities of docking with the station, the tank volume was reduced to 150 ml, therefore, more than 40 sq. m. from one start, he will not wash.

Which Dreame robot vacuum do you need?
First of all, all Dreame robots have the ability to map and move in straight lines, methodically covering the entire cleaning area. They are all lidar controlled except for the F9 with some additions such as the 3D sensor in the L10 Pro and Z10 Pro.

Object recognition technology is useful in homes with pet bowls pushed by robots without Lidar non-navigation. Same with shoes and slippers: Robots like the L10 Pro and Z10 Pro will bypass shoes when others pick them up and drag them around the room. Another thing is that slippers and bowls can be removed. It’s a matter of choice.
Each Dreame can be controlled via an app connected via Wi-Fi. None of them has a remote control, like most modern robots — as unnecessary.

F9, D9, L10 Pro and Z10 Pro have a very similar mopping system, so these four robots mop the same. The difference between these four is the size of the water tank. The Z10 Pro has the smallest water tank, which means less coverage. If the area is large, you will need to fill the tank with water during cleaning. For homes with carpets, one of these four is best.

Dreame F9 is the most affordable and the only camera controlled model. Its navigation is not as advanced, but still suitable for small to medium-sized homes.
It is worth noting the lowest profile in the line — the height of F9 — 8.2 cm against 9.6 for other Dreame robots.
It is an alternative to the popular Xiaomi Mijia 1C, even bypassing it in terms of characteristics and build quality, for example, Dreame F9 has a map building function and room division, which is not in 1C.
Affordable Dreame D9

Dreame D9 is one of the most budget-friendly yet powerful and smart robots on the market. It shows excellent cleaning results on both carpets and hard floors.
Navigation is advanced, but it does not see small objects like its brothers and sisters. Suitable for large houses with hard floors and carpets.

Compared with D9, L10 Pro has stronger suction and 3D sensor for detecting small objects. It also shows the best results when cleaning carpets. The quality of the mop is similar to the D9 as they have the same mopping system. Will cope with a larger area when mopping than the big brother Z10Pro.

For a reasonable price, you can buy an excellent robot — F9, which does not have a 3D sensor, but it cleans carpets and hard floors well, and also washes. A great option for those who need a good robot, without claiming the latest technology. Ideal for apartments and houses up to 150m2.
Pay attention to D9 if you do not want to overpay, but just want a good robot vacuum cleaner with mopping. If you have a complex layout or more than 3 rooms, pay attention to D9, as its navigation is more advanced — laser.
L10 Pro is number one if you need advanced navigation, high power and top performance for the right price. Yes, it does not have a self-draining base, but it has a larger water tank than the Z10 Pro (with a self-draining base), so Dream L10pro will suit homes with more hard floor area. The power of 4000Pa is even higher than some hand-held robots, what to say about robots, many manufacturers do not even post information about the suction power in Pascals. Don’t assume any compatibility of consumables or other parts as well as rooting instructions.
Xiaomi V1
The Xiaomi V1 is made by Roborock. It is sold as:
This robot never received firmware updates that enable persistent maps. This means that it creates a new one on every cleanup.
There are no virtual walls etc. Do not buy this new. There are much better options.
Rooting is pretty easy if your device was manufactured before 2020-03.
In that case, it only requires a laptop. All warranty seals stay intact.
If your robot is newer than that, full disassembly will be required.
Xiaomi 1C
The Xiaomi 1C is made by Dreame. It is sold as:
There are multiple hardware revisions under the same name. Only the dreame.vacuum.mc1808 is currently supported.
Rooting is pretty easy, only requiring a 3.3v USB UART Adapter and almost no disassembly. All warranty seals stay intact.
Xiaomi 1T
The Xiaomi 1T is made by Dreame. It is sold as:
On initial root, it might be required to do a factory reset so that the device.conf gets regenerated.
Note that that factory reset will also remove Valetudo meaning that you will have to put it back after that.
Xiaomi P2148
The Xiaomi P2148 is made by Dreame. It is sold as:
With its 5.5cm height and 32.3cm diameter, this robot offers a solution for some tricky homes.
As it is china exclusive, spare parts may be hard to find in the rest of the world.

Xiaomi Vacuum-Mop P
The Vacuum-Mop P is using the Viomi cloud stack but is actually made by 3irobotix.
There are three robots with different IDs under this name, and they’re all 3irobotix CRL-200S inside.
It’s very confusing. If unsure, please ask us first.
These are sold under the names:
Rooting is pretty easy, only requiring a Linux Laptop and a micro USB cable.
It might be required to remove the battery but that can be done without touching any warranty seals.
Warning:
Unfortunately, there are some unresolved issues with the Mijia STYTJ02YM viomi.vacuum.v8.
It is strongly recommended to not attempt to root the v8 variant to avoid the risk of bricking the robot.

While Valetudo works with their model firmwares, the recommended rooting procedure is to flash these with a Viomi V6 firmware as that has more features.
Xiaomi Vacuum-Mop 2 Ultra
